Welcome to our travel blog. We are Tabitha and Nic. In 2011 we 'retired' in our early 40s and set off to travel the world. We spent our first year in South America and have been lucky enough to make two trips to Antarctica.

Our blog is a record of our travels, thoughts and experiences. It is not a guide book, but we do include some tips and information, so we hope that you may find it useful if you are planning to visit somewhere we have been. Or you may just find it interesting as a bit of armchair travel.

If the ship can't get to the Emperors .....

.... then we have to hope an emperor will come to the ship.  And thankfully, one did.

We were back on the ship and relaxing before dinner, when an announcement came over the tannoy that there was an emperor penguin next to the ship.

Within moments just about everyone on board was hanging over the railings watching the solitary emperor that had popped up on the ice right next to us.

It was very obliging.  It walked around a bit, had a bit of a toboggan and even gave a few calls before deciding it was time to slip back into the water and away.

So we didn't get to the rookery, but at least we did get to see one of the elusive emperors close to.
